The Rohloff Speed Hub 500/14

Developed with versatility in mind, the Rohloff Speed hub has been accepted by riders looking for high performance and recreational cyclists alike, because of it's simplicity, reliability, perfect single gear ratios and wide range of consecutive gears operated from a single shifter.
The basic principle is that the Rohloff provides 14 gears that emulate the range that you may find on a conventional 27 speed deraillier set up.
There has been some critism of the Rohloff suggesting that it is noisy in some gears. This is not without foundation, and has been addressed by Rohloff as the hub has evolved over recent years although testimonials from long standing Rohloff owners suggest that the hub actually gets better through use, smoothing out and becoming more quite as as it wears in.
Reliability and durability are certainly ensured with the sealed nature of the hub gear, the quality of engineering is certainly impressive, and inarguably a step above the mass produced hub gears from other very large component manufacturers, who still haven't even come close to the 14 speed range offered by the Rohloff.
Perhaps one of the cleverest and simplest principles of the hub is the presence of the indexing in the hub, and not the shifter. This basically means that there is no fussy adjustment to keep your gears running smoothly, and no wear in the indexing as shifters become slack and wear out, just crisp, clean shifts every time. The 13.6% increments offered across the 14 gears make for a very simple and predictable system to use, ensuring that you always have the right gear from any situation, you can indeed shift from 1st to 14th with a single twist at the wrist!

Options are available, with various means of fitting the hub into the frame dependant on what kind of drop out is present on the frame, as well as standard or disc brake options.
