Pacific are a huge Taiwanese manufacturer who make frames for many people including the Birdy frame for Reise und Muller. The Reach is one of the bikes that they produce under their own name, and as you may suspect from such a massive company they have the economy of scale to produce a fantastic bicycle at an unbelievable price.

The heart of any bike is of course the frame, and the Pacific Reach's lightweight alloy frame is a gem. The quality of manufacture is very high and wouldn't let down a bike of twice the price as the Reach. Aesthetically the frame is also very well balanced, with a slightly taller stance then you have on many folding bikes which actually provides a very sure footed feel to the ride, giving you that reassuring sensation of 'having something beneath you'.
The frame is available in one size only, but the adjustable seat post and replaceable stem will allow you to customise your position so it's perfect.
Front and rear suspension ensures a controlled comfortable ride, and the rear is adjustable by means of a simple screw collar on the shock that enables you to compress the spring for a firmer ride, or allows for shock adjustment dependant on the rider weight.
20" wheels allow for a compact fold and actually still provide a very 'normal' ride quality to the bike, meaning that the Reach doesn't suffer from that 'small wheel feel' that some people find disconcerting initially on very small wheeled bikes.
The bike folds by removing the front wheel, then swinging the rear (the black section) of the frame underneath the bike so that the rear wheel comes up and sits in the fork. The stem can then be removed at the base via a quick release, and the seat pin can be dropped to provide an overall respectably compact size. The Reach isn't the smallest bike when folded, and the necessity to remove the front wheel may make this bike unsuitable for some looking for an ultra quick fold to get on and off a crowded train, but that is perhaps not the person that this bike is aimed at. The real strength of the Reach is the quality of it's ride. You can use this bike comfortably in the same way as you may a conventional bike, which is when some of the smaller folding bikes would be at the limit of their versatility, plus the Reach still has the ability to fold small enough to be transported easily or stored away in a cupboard, caravan or boat.
If you are planning to tour with the bike or carry loads the Reach has a rack available. Again this is where the bike really excels. The problem with racks on many folding bikes is that they are either to low to the ground to carry panniers, or have fixed panniers racks that need to be removed to achieve a compact fold, not so the Pacific Reach. The rack on the Reach is of a height that allows panniers to be used without a problem. When folded the rack cleverly articulates behind the bike to sit flush with the sea tube and actually aids the stability of the bike when folded by providing 'feet' that touch the floor.

This is also possibly one of the most adaptable folding bikes on the market at this price. The standard specification features a versatile 8 speed derailleur gear system with twist grip shifter, powerful mountain bike style V brakes and a selection of good quality finishing components throughout. Perfect for those looking for a simple great quality bike to use for recreation, transport and fitness.
For those that like taking things apart (and are possibly a little bit bike nerdy like us), the Reach offers a host of opportunities to upgrade components, change and then change again. The presence of road brake caliper mounts, a front derailleur hanger, and the fact that the bike uses conventional components through out mean that you could customise this bike to your hearts content. The Pacific Reach 29.3 lbs (13.4kg) approx.
