If you are looking for a folding bike with a quality ride then you the Mezzo d9 could be the one.
One of the first things you notice about the d9 is how quick the bike feels. The aluminium frame has been designed to minimise any flex in the frame, creating a bike that steers and rides exceptionally well that is as well suited to fast recreational riding as it is everyday commuting.
A 9 speed derailleur is also a nice feature for those who would like a little more performance then a hub gear can offer. Although the actual range of the gearing is about the same between the d9 and the hub geared Mezzo i4, the gears on the d9 are slightly higher meaning that ultimately this bike will be quicker.
The derailleur gears aren't just an advantage for speed freaks though.....with 9 gears in the range as opposed to 4, your ability to maintain a pedaling speed that you feel comfortable with is much easier, meaning you should never find yourself pushing to hard, or spinning the pedals uncomfortably fast when 'in between' gears which can be a problem on hub geared bikes. The simple push button operation of the gear shifters are also well suited to the rider that doesn't want to think about it all to much as well...just sit back and enjoy the ride.
The ease of fold is simple once you are familiar with the bike and just as quick as any of it's competitors, while the small folded size will be appreciated by those boarding a packed commuter train as much as it will be by those wishing to store the bike in a car, caravan boat or cupboard.
The new rear luggage bag available for the Mezzo has also strengthened it's position as a serious commuter bike, and also add's to the versatility of the bike for recreational uses as well. Although it doesn't feature in the promotional material, we're sure that the extra padding in the bag designed to protect your laptop is bound to keep your drinks cooler for longer when your going on a picnic!
. The Mezzo bag is designed to quickly, simply and securely lock onto the Mezzo rack. The bag is very well made, with the appearance of a conventional smart cloth town/office bag fitted with carry handles and shoulder strap it really wouldn't look out of place in the office. Add to this the ability to fit in a laptop (it is well padded) and a lightweight yellow cover that can be fitted to keep the bag clean and keep you visible when on the bike in less amicable weather conditions.
Light weight, compact easy fold, great looks and fantastic design and build quality set the Mezzo aside as a particularly well executed bicycle that although not as established as some of the other folding bike brands that are available, is finding it's place amongst those who realise how good this bike really is in comparison to the more traditional folding bike choices.
